Teaching Methods
1. Lectures / SGD
- Students will self-read and prepare notes on every lecture topic.
- Students (at random) will make a presentation on every topic.
- With each topic, the Family Physician will discuss the clinical component and experiences.
2. Documentation
• Record Book in Family Medicine
- Short cases (according to the ‘SOAP’ format, variety of cases).
- Lecture / Group discussion topics and notes with student’s clinical experiences relevant to the topics.
- Report on student experiences at the General Practice center.
• Short Appointment Log Diary
- Experiences during the appointment.
- Diseases / conditions, clinical features, symptoms, signs, emergencies & etc.
- Procedures : wound cleaning & dressing, ECG, suturing, catheterization, canulization, nebulization, insertion of suppository & etc. (performed or observed)
3. Clinical training
- General practitioner, General Practice center.
- Family clinic, NFTH.
- Family Medical centre, NFTH.
- Patients identified at the ‘Family attachment programme’ of the Dept. of Community Medicine.
4. Teaching / learning activities (programme) & Time allocation
• Clinical attachments will be at a General Practitioner’s clinic, Family Clinic and at the Family Medical centre, NFTH.
• All lecture topics would be discussed as SGDs; reading of topics should be done prior to the date of discussion.
• Completion of ‘Record book in Family Medicine’ - appreciate on primary care skills.
• ‘Short appointment log diary’ should be maintained on a daily basis.
• Group assignment (eg. article) / presentation will be given relevant to Family Medicine.
