Mr. Nilanga Abeysinghe, a senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology and Medical Psychology, presented the research on "Humour as a Pedagogical Tool in Sri Lanka" at the International Research Symposium 2017, Uwa Wellassa University, Badulla, Sir Lanka (19-20 January, 2017), and received the award for the best presentation of the session.


Dr. H. M. Kasuni Akalanka, a senior lecturer in Biochemistry and Chemistry; received the Merit award at the 6th YSF symposium held on 20th January 2017 at University of Peradeniya for presenting the paper on, "Association between CRP and BMI of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients".
Young Scientists Forum (YSF) emanated from the World Conference on Science for the 21st Century, held in Budapest, Hungary, from 26th June to 01st July, 1999, under the aegis of the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Council for Science (ICSU).
The YSF was established in NASTEC in year 2000, with the objective of providing an opportunity for young scientists in Sri Lanka to voice their opinion on S&T related issues.
The YSF Symposium which was initiated in year 2012 has become a popular event as a forum that gives an opportunity for young scientists to prevent their research work to the scientist community.





Dr. Vindya Perera presented the following research study done by MEU of Faculty of Medicine, SAITM at the 12th Joint SDC - SLAIHEE Conference 2016 - "Quality Assurance in Higher Education for Effective Learning" on 17th June 2016 at Wayamba University, Kuliyapitiya, Sri Lanka. 'Students’ Response to the Introduction of an Elective to the Medical Curriculum of a Private Medical School' Roshini Susiriwardena, Vindya Perera, Nelun de Silva, Shanti Goonewardena



"Overcoming of Psychological Stress" book by Prof. D. B. Nugegoda is not one that is to be read once and kept aside. In this book, the author who is professor of Community Medicine at the SAITM, Faculty of Medicine tries to explain scientifically why stress arises and ways of overcoming it. The book is the result of his long years of interest in the field of Mind-Body Medicine and his extensive reading of literature in this field. There are chapters discussing the importance of laughter, assertiveness, physical activity, love compassion and empathy, social support, living with nature, music therapy, sleep, meditation, mind power and mental imagery.


Dr. Malathie Priyangika Dissanayake, a senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology and Medical Psychology:
- Received the Best Presentation Award at the 1st World Asian Studies Conference-2015 held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in August, 2015
- Received the Session’s Best Presentation Award at the 1st World Asian Studies Conference-2015 held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in August, 2015
- Received the Session’s Best Presentation Award at the 2nd International Conference on Social Sciences-2015 held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in August, 2015


Mr. Nilanga Abeysinghe, a senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology and Medical Psychology presented at the International Congress of Psychology 2016 in Japan in July, 2016. His presentation was entitled “Essential therapeutic skills for mental health practitioners: Adaptation of the enhancing assessment of common therapeutic factors scale in Sri Lanka”.
