Department of Clinical Medicine

Introduction
The Department of Clinical Medicine of SAITM was established in 2009. The academic department is situated within the SAITM while the clinical unit is attached to the Dr. Neville Fernando Sri Lanka-Russia Friendship Teaching Hospital (NFTH). The clinical unit is responsible for providing comprehensive care to out - patients and in - patients attending NFTH and for training medical undergraduates of SAITM in Clinical Medicine during their clinical rotation. The unit is well equipped to manage a wide range of medical emergencies and problems.

The mission of the department is to educate undergraduate medical students in accordance with the highest professional standards. The students are trained to enable them to practice patient-centered medicine of the highest standards using available resources.

The academics of the Department are experienced Physicians with varied interests and expertise. Their expertise includes Dengue, Snake Bites, Immunology, Diabetes and other non-communicable diseases. Clinicians of all other related specialties such as cardiology, neurology and immunology attached to NFTH are also involved in patient management and undergraduate teaching activities.
