Q - How do you intend improving cultural, educational, sporting and people to people exchanges?

A - Indeed, besides the traditional spheres, there is great potential for strengthening cooperation in fields such as education, culture and sports. We, made real progress in education cooperation, in 2012.The number of scholarships granted by the Russian Government was increased to 35 and for the first time five scholarships were offered to Russian citizens by Sri Lanka.

I should also note that the main phase of the construction of the Dr. Neville Fernando Sri Lanka - Russia Friendship Teaching Hospital was completed last year. I am confident that the Hospital, which was established due to the joint efforts of Dr. Neville Fernando, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Russian partner Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy, is a brilliant example of the successful development of our bilateral relations. It also provides an excellent opportunity for students of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine which is affiliated to NNSMA for medical practice.
