The Russian Ambassador H.E Vladimir . P . Mikhaylov on July 26 2012 visited the Teaching Hospital under construction for the Faculty of Medicine of South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (Pvt) Ltd. (SAITM) in Malabe.

He was accompanied by the Chairman of SAITM, Dr. Neville Fernando and Director Medical Faculty Dr. Sameera Senaratne. Along with the them Director Russian Centre Mr. Andrey . M . Nazarkin, Provincial Director of Health Services Dr. Amal Harsha De Silva and Head of International Affairs, Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy, Russian Federation, Prof. Vladimir . E . Zagainov and also joined.

The distinguished guests were surprised to see the progress made only within 11 months. They got the opportunity to discuss progress of the hospital and teaching facilities with the Medical Director of the hospital Prof. Deepal Weerasekara, other professors and consultants. The hospital is scheduled to be opened soon for operations.

Dr Neville Fernando was confident that the professorial units will be ready by Feb. 2013 as per the Gazette Requirements.

Once commissioned, Dr. Neville Fernando Sri Lanka-Russia Friendship Teaching Hospital will be the largest private teaching hospital in the country. It is a multi specialty tertiary care teaching hospital with the capacity of 1002 beds. This state of the art facility is situated in a greener environment away from the city hassle yet a half an hour’s drive from Colombo.
