Quality Multimedia Education at SAITM is Recognized by the Industry

Quality versus quantity is the hot topic today. In keeping with the traditional quality education which was available in Sri Lanka, which is  still prevails in our traditional universities, can also be seen at SAITM as Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council  of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka recognized  SAITM as the first higher educational institute in the country to offer their own degrees. 

It is a remarkable achievement not only by the students and staff of SAITM but also the visionary founder of the institute, Prof. Neville Fernando.

The programs offered by four faculties meet the highest standards required by the UGC to grant degree awarding status for SAITM.

The Faculty of ICT & Media is also offering the first ever Multimedia Degree program in Sri Lanka with true industry participation. The faculty currently offers a three year BSc program in Computing with Interactive media with lateral entry into third year after completing an accepted HND or equivalent. Further, for those who are contemplating more on aesthetic side of the discipline are encourage going for the BA (Hons) in Animation, Games and Interactive media from Buckinghamshire New University, U.K.

SAITM is equipped with modern day media centered computer labs with 24 inch high powered Apple “i-mac” computers with high speed internet for in-situ media access during lectures. To fulfill such possibilities the class size is restricted to 30 students and a batch is not more than 60 per intake.

Faculty of ICT & Media is going to start a high caliber BSc Computing program of 4 year duration and BSc computing with Accounting and Finance, a three year program focusing the Financial Industry where hundreds of jobs are available.

The Department of New Media in the Faculty of ICT & Media is also in the process of introducing a Diploma in Personality Development (Creative delivery, Speech, Drama and Acting) as a part time program. The course aims to widen student's physical, emotional, intellectual and creative ability to develop their personal skills to meet the highest demands in whichever profession they pick up as their career. A workforce survey conducted by the ICTA with the blessings of World Bank revealed that one of the primary reasons of failures at job interviews is the lack of soft skills such as leadership, communication and creative expression.

Famous artists with accolades such as Mr. Jagath Manuwarna have come forward to work alongside the students, making this program receive the best from the industry.

Some of the activities planned are:

•  Development of physical, emotional and creative capacities.

•  Demonstration of Yoga, Stunts and martial Arts, Body Movements and Dance

•  Understand and Practicing various acting techniques and Acting for Camera

•  Developing skills on improvisation, voice, movement and singing

•  Developing skills to critically appreciate theater, Music, Film and other forms of Art.

•  Demonstration of Grooming and personality development.

Another program in the making is Diploma in Vocal Music (High performance voice training) for students with music aspirations. Overlooked by famous Nimantha Heshan this program will takes a hands on approach with latest equipment in sound analysis. At the end of this one year program the students will be able to produce their own music for various applications as well as perform in the same field with confidence.
